DECEMBER 31, 2008

Here is the new section of The Picture of Everything (so far)!

Just finished listening to the audio books of the His Dark Materials saga by Phillip Pullman and highly encourage you to download them. They have a full BBC cast recording of all 3 books and are absolutely fantastic.

My beginning of the year reviews will be up as soon as possible, probably on January 1st.

2008 for me was a good year in that nobody really close to me died, but professionally/financially was an utter disaster. I guess we can count our blessings and hope for a brighter future.

Broof on, my friends.

NOVEMBER 30, 2008

A 5 minute piece I narrated about The Picture of Everything for the CBC show "The Hour".

Cthulhu Tiki. (Thanks Aubrey!)

Excellent article about the Marvel World Playset.

Congratulations to America and the Obama family. It sucks that Prop 8 passed, but at least Luke Skywalker has destroyed the Death Star. The Empire has been dealt a crippling blow by the rebellion, and hopefully more victories are ahead.

I'm not ashamed to say I saw Twilight twice.

The Police meet The Bee Gees. Peter Gabriel meets Lynard Skynard.

This is the trippiest show on TV.

Vintage images full of awesome.

Don't think I post enough here? Visit my Live Journal blog. I get to that a lot more often.

OCTOBER 31, 2008

I've made a vow to do whatever I can to post an update both here on my news page AND on The Picture of Everything's progress on the last day of each month from now until its completion. Let's see if I can do it.

Happy Halloween! Please please please elect Barak Obama. I beg you America.

My friend Sanctum has set up his own Dr. Strange blog. With Neilalien out there as well, there are now 2 hubs of Doc news online.

I've been listening a lot to this song and this song.

OCTOBER 9, 2008

Guess there's no better time than Yom Kippur to ask your forgiveness for not posting for so long.

What happened in the last 42 days?

Jesse and I moved to Los Feliz, which means I can get to my job in 20 minutes.

Our apartment kicks ass, and I'm busy at work on the next section of The Picture of Everything. It's right on schedule to be completed in 2010. Updates to come...

Haven't been watching any of the political stuff... Just quietly hoping that the guy I want to win does. I'll be voting, that's what counts.

Money sucks and there won't be any Christmas trip to Florida this year for us, or any trips up north to visit friends and family in Canada, Arizona or New York. Airplane tickets are waaay to expensive this year.

Maybe next year if the economy is better.

I have been reading a bit. I'm aleady on the 4th book of the Stephanie Meyer "Twilight" saga, and they're so good I feel like a teenage girl again. With that and HBO's True Blood I've been getting my share of vampire stuff. Just in time for Halloween.

Not doing anything original this year. Just some parties as the good Doctor yet again.

And Bat's Day is coming up the first weekend of November, which is nice.

It's been forever ago that I found out about Kermit the Frog and Christian Bale... its memory is fading in the 15 minutes of webthread fame...

AUGUST 28, 2008

Jesse and I are getting ready to move to Los Feliz so I haven't been blogging news this month. Let's see what's been up on the internets:

Dr. Strange listed as the #1 superhero movie people want to see happen!

I like this song. Sweet and sappy video too.

A comic book biography of Jack Parsons!

NSFW: X-Men hentai! (Warning: Graphic!)

An awesome t-shirt.

Another tragic loss in 2008.

AUGUST 3, 2008

This happened today. It will soon be re-drawn in the next section of The Picture of Everything.

A fascinating and often heartwrenching article about Genesis P-Orridge.

Some obscure trippy Steve Ditko comic book covers.

Tr2n and the new Harry Potter book are 2 more reasons to stay alive.

NSFW: Some images burn the eyes forever. You have been warned.

JULY 30, 2008

There's a lot of scary stuff out there.

JULY 23, 2008

If anyone is interested, I'm having my birthday party at Ground Control Karaoke this coming Monday.

An octopus with 96 tentacles! Bet it used to love ? and The Mysterions.

Congratulations to Jesse for scoring another spot on The Tonight Show! She shoots this week, so wish her well!

Dr. Strange geekery: Today is the day that the very first Clea figure was (officially) released.

Yaz in concert was awesome. Been listening to a lot of Blancmange lately. The Dark Knight to me was not the Casablanca of superhero movies, but Heath was a great Joker. Hellboy 2 was aight, as was Hancock. They will make a great double feature at the $2.00 theater. Needless to say, my brother and I saw Get Smart, Love Guru and You Don't Mess With The Zohan all in one day and the whole thing was like a huge popcorn fart. Why the hell did we do that?

JULY 6, 2008

Jesse is doing a one-act play starting this week!

The first Lisa Gerrard song has been released on karaoke.

Ganked from Neilalien: Comic about a guy meeting Steve Ditko. Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum modeled after NYC Synagogue?

Someone stole the Ian Curtis headstone.... Wonder which goth kids bedroom it ended up in.

Guess what's NSFW: Venture Brothers Hentai! More Venture Brothers Hentai!

JULY 2, 2008

This is Jesse and my second wedding anniversary. I got her a large 22 x 28 inch lenticular of this portrait I did of her. She likes it.

In other news, Cthulhu Commandos are distributing the Jack Chick parody tracts I designed back in 2002. Chick's lawyers issued me a cease and desist letter for those things, but it was too late. The internet got hold of it, and despite the fact that I took it down on this site, it lives on to this day hosted by other acolytes. Tentacles within tentacles.

My Grandma Sadie turned 94 years old on June 30th and she still has her mind. Her secret? Plenty of Boston Market chicken and lots of vitamins.

JUNE 25, 2008

F1rst things first... The Futurama movie Beast With A Billion Backs is fan-fucking-tastic.

Here's some stuff:

50 women dressed like Wonder Woman. Muppet pimps and Live Action Tetris. Jack Tripper dolls and William S. Burroughs shotgun paintings I saw every day I was at work in 1994. You might also want to check out George Carlin's insightful last interview ever.

I love Jesse, and my mom, so I would never kill myself. Still, there have been lots of days lately where I actually pray I get non-fatally hit by a car when I cross the street on the way to work... Just enough so that I get a really nice settlement and no permanent damage.

It was nice to see my cousin Aubrey down here for a few days, and my pals Erich and Rebecca who are also visiting. Wish I had more time away from work to enjoy the summer and their company... and more cash.

These are the dog days of the Bush Dynasty, and we should always remember how miserable it was. Never forget it, because I'm truly hopeful that no matter who gets in the White House next, it will be better than what has been festering there for the last 8 years.

JUNE 12, 2008

Here's to the first ever cartoon porno. Here's to Madam Satan. Here's to Darth Vader sand sculptures and Baseball players with suggestive names. Here's to really really deep swimming pools and Fast Willie Jackson. Here's to gigantic anime heads you can walk into and Goth Power Puff Girls...

MAY 29, 2008

This is what I want for my birthday. Someone please get me one.

Gas prices = FAIL

No one can convince me otherwise: Our president and his cronies sat down with big oil and said in a secret meeting that gas prices would be $5.00 a gallon by the end of his second term.

Part of me thinks that a bunch of people should get some old cars that barely run and coordinate a time to enter major freeways. Everyone should drive parallel, and at a certain location, stop the cars and abandon them. Block all lanes of traffic. Now that would be a protest! Too bad a lot of people would die. Ambulances would be stuck, some people might get hit by cars... Random chaos... Still, it would sure show those bastards that we're mad as hell and this is complete bullshit.

When I see oil prices I can't help but feel deep Schadenfreude for any bad karma accumulated by the fat cats that are screwing us all right now.

OK. Rant over.

MAY 21, 2008

Hitler may be going to Burning Man this year, but not me. My vacation starts tomorrow as Jesse and I will be in Florida for a wedding for the next few days.

Meanwhile, here's something to look at and something else to ponder deeply.

Until I blog again, remember: It is what it is.

MAY 8, 2008

Presenting an art piece that took 16 months to create: The Eternity Mego custom figure!

The world's record for Tetris is 4068 lines. I'm a quarter of the way there.

One of the best interviews ever printed.

Got tickets to Nick Cave at the Hollywood Bowl. Very excited about that.

More soon.

APRIL 30, 2008

Not a lot of posts this month. Sorry about that.

I'm going to be putting up photos of an art piece I collaborated on with my father-in-law and Juana over at Cleascave.com soon. It's Doctor Strange related.

You can get the Tom Waits song "Waltzing Matilda" on karaoke! Just look for the Rod Stewart version! Speaking of Tom... Some folks out there may be able to sing Waits better than Scarlett Johansson, but she's the only one I want singing them to me naked... Except for my wife of course... But she doesn't like Tom Waits as much as Scarlett does... I should just STFU.

Here's a preview of Venture Bros upcoming season!

Love and Rockets played "Haunted When The Minutes Drag" live at Coachella. That may be one of the greatest moments in rock and roll to happen in 2008.

RIP Albert Hoffmann! 102 years young! Have a great trip!

Wook #17 goes to court!

Oh yeah... Iron Man and Speed Racer. Geek crack.

APRIL 10, 2008

Jesse will be doing a sketch on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno TONIGHT! Set your TiVos!

Funny shirt of the week. I like this one too. And this is completely wrong.

New Steve Ditko book coming soon!

Be back with more next week. Meanwhile, I'll leave you with this one thought: Do you think frisbee maker Wham-O! knows they have a swastika on their website's home page?

MARCH 27, 2008

So I commissioned this site to make 3 karaoke songs for me: MC Chris's "Fett's Vette", Joy Division's "Transmission" and Nick Cave's "Red Right Hand". Frikkin awesome!

I just saw one of the best movies I've ever seen tonight. It's called "Wristcutters: A Love Story". It has Tom Waits and the singer of Gogol Bordello in it. It was great. Go Netflix it or rent it. Trust me. It rules.

Speaking of Tom Waits, I still can't believe he made a dog food commercial after he was so adamantly against ads that copied his voice. Guess Bob Dylan probably changed his mind about the whole "commercial selling out" thing. At least they didn't use any of his songs...

Haven't heard a good mashup in a while. Finally caught one that mixes Jimi Hendrix and The Stone Roses. Nice work.

Speaking of good songs, I think this one is pretty good.

And now I bring you the funny: Who Needs A Movie? (Thanks Aubrey!) Planet Unicorn (Thanks Noah!)

In turd news: Homeland Security office PWNED by homeless fecal freak!

Don't watch this unless you've seen both There Will Be Blood and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

OMFG... Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson, topless and making out (and you can see their boobs)!

Finally, I leave you with brand new Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds!

MARCH 19, 2008

The Picture of Everything has been updated. The second Cars, People and Robots section has been completed!

My Jack Parson's art piece is in the new issue of Make Magazine this month!

Karaoke fans: There's a site to get an instrumental version of any song you want recorded for you for about $65-$80 a track. With that and some CDG creator software, my dream of doing a karaoke version of GG Allin's song "Anal C**t" is that much closer to being a reality!

Just put an order in to Marvel Zombie artist Arthur Suydam to do a commission for me! It's going to be a zombie version of the cover to Marvel Feature #1.

Jesse got to have dinner and hang out with Shirley Manson from Garbage last Friday at The Magic Castle! Me=Very jellus!

This is what I call a tombstone!

Three things to make you laugh: One, Two, and Three.

Online interview with my pals The Unextraordinary Gentlemen (Page 69 of the PDF)

4 people sent me the link to Animal, Beaker and Swedish Chef singing Danny Boy on The Muppets and it still drips with awesomeness.

Holy guacamole am I loving South Park and Lost this season...

MARCH 11, 2008

In honor of the great Dave Stevens passing, a gallery of his beautiful comic book art.

What better purpose does the internet have than for providing a window to images of Transformers having sex and superhero porn? (Links NSFW)

MARCH 4, 2008

Does anyone know anyone in Spain? I really want to get some of these Dr. Extraño comics!

Tomorrow is the last day Nova Express Cafe will be opened. I'll be there for dinner at 7 and later on around 10.

In honor of Gary Gygax, a link to why only the first printing of his book "Deities and Demigods" featured the Elric and Cthulhu mythos...

Speaking of rare books, ever wonder what the first edition of Dracula or The Lord of The Rings series looked like?

I think I might have to see Yazoo this year. Already got tickets to see Ladytron, Don Rickles and Chris Rock. Want to go to Coachella on Sunday, but may just watch the web feed all day and not deal with the people and traffic. Jesse definitely wants to see Radiohead, but as of now they haven't named the date or venue near Los Angeles yet.

Going to get the new Bauhaus album tomorrow, and grab the new Dandy Warhols disc on May 5th. Also going to David J's play Silver For Gold this Thursday.

This guy is definitely going in The Picture of Everything.

FEBRUARY 27, 2008

Anyone interested in... ERICH ORSER'S BOOK "YOUNG AND EVIL"? A fantastic book. Truly a classic piece of literature. Should be taught in classrooms. I said it first.

Kermit the Frogs reaction to 2 Guys One Cup.

Anyone looking for a date?

FEBRUARY 19, 2008

Going to stop by and see Unextraordinary Gentlemen at El Cid tomorrow (Wed. the 22nd).

A beautiful collection of internet motivational posters.

I LOLed at this.

They have wigs for cats now.

This is who I'm voting for.

Is it wrong to find this funny?

I saw King of Kong and Confessions of A Superhero recently and loved them both. Highly recommended.

A Doctor Strange item I have never seen before.

And until next Tuesday's update, I leave you with an image of the cast appearing next season on The Venture Bros!

FEBRUARY 12, 2008

It's amazing to me that someone would pay $1725 for a Marvel Blacklight poster and that This Mortal Coil is available on karaoke.

David J is doing music for an Edie Sedgwick musical at The Met in Los Angeles.

I'm enjoying band Be Your Own Pet's song "The Kelly Affair", which is a full on tribute to my favorite movie of all time!

Bruce Timm does Sailor Moon!

Mashup of the week: Talking Heads vs. Kraftwerk

RIP Steve Gerber... Your Defenders comics were some of my favorites in the series. Hope you are looking down on us from the Duckworld beyond...

Finally, a Doctor Strange prayer...

FEBRUARY 6, 2008

World War II history in an animated GIF.

A Marvel Zombies fan film.

Star Wars toys that unintentionally look like celebrities.

New Bauhaus album out in March!

FEBRUARY 5, 2008

I'm getting interviewed by for the Canadian TV Series "The Hour" this coming Monday. It's a national show on the CBC Network that comes on late night in Canada. It'll be a piece like this one and this one. The segment is going to be about The Picture of Everything, but I'll have a few lenticulars on hand and show off the Sanctum Sanctorum West.

Speaking of Dr. Strange, I'm with Neilalien on the New Avengers Annual #2.

Laz-D is definitely my favorite rap artist with Downs Syndrome.

Stuff like this is porn to me.

The completely awesome Johnny Ryan print of the Howard Stern Show cast is now available online.

I personally think it's a Tusken Raider.

JANUARY 29, 2008

Can you believe it took me this long to hear about Polybius?

People dressed like Smurfs today.

Mutant porn! More mutant porn!

New karaoke coming soon: Black Sabbath's "Children Of The Grave", Social Distortion's "Ball and Chain", Radiohead's "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" and Kraftwerk's "Autobahn".

No matter where you are around the world, you can has cheeseburger.

Aaah... The Ween Forum... Like a fine wine of funny.

If you have time to read an amazing article that will blow your mind, read this one.

Depeche Mode meets Eric Clapton.

Read about a true hero.

A thread about Tiki tattoos.

A collection of FAIL pix.

JANUARY 22, 2008

Today marked the death of The Joker and the official beginning of the Recession. Gotta love 2008 so far... Nova Express closing. One more year of this fucking Bush administration. A job that pays to little and is too far away. So many things to spend money on yet barely enough to do the things you need to do. Good thing there's really good monster movies and a brand new season of Lost to enjoy. Thank you JJ Abrams!

I like this guys animation.

When's the last time you saw a nice gallery of science fiction and horror pulp magazines? How about a heaping helping of custom Mego action figures?

You can thank me by buying a print.

JANUARY 17, 2008

Some sad news... Nova Express Cafe will be closing for good. March 5th is their last night open. Nova is probably my favorite restaurant/cafe/art gallery in the world. I was the very first customer there along with my buddy Jericho Resse. My art has been hanging in there since right after it opened back in 1993. I currently have The Picture of Everything altar up there, along with many of my large lenticulars. Cary, the owner of the place, and his wife Jennifer, both helped me make a giant Cthulhu costume for Halloween that became the official Nova mascot. They also put together my Dr. Strange costume. Cary tells me the reason it's closing is because the landlord is going to raise the rent TWICE this year, and it's just too much strain to keep it open. Very sad. It was like having my own art gallery open every night until at least 2am. I know Paris Hilton smoked out in the Nova bathrooms. My old band Don Knotts Overdrive also did some shows there. It was the scene of many dates, meetings, gatherings and good times. I wish Cary luck as he goes into his next venture, and raise a Great Cthulhu Mighty Revival Shake to 15 years of Nova Express.

I'll be there, by the way, on Friday, Saturday and (maybe) Sunday night.

In happier news, my good buddy Michael Gump and his wife Christine are going to have a baby this March. They already know it's a boy and his name is going to be Arrow Godzilla Gump. For reals. Congratulations!

At Ground Control this week I got into a conversation with a few people who still hadn't heard of the "2 Girls 1 Cup" website. I won't hyperlink it, since it's really gross, but just think about this: They have a whole bunch of You Tube movies up that just have people's REACTIONS of clicking over to see it. Some guy videotaped his grandma going there. That's just wrong.

Last weekend Jesse and I walked into Silverlake from Los Feliz and stopped by the Philosophical Research Society. I found a copy of Crowley's Book of The Law there from the 1940's for $10. Sent it along with the Unextraordinary Gentlemen's EP to David J. Figure he would enjoy them.

JANUARY 9, 2008

Saw Stan Lee last night at Gallery 1988's tribute to him. He looked great! Really wish I was a part of that show. Gave Stan a "Work In Progress" print of The Picture of Everything and waited an hour and a half to see the art and get an exclusive Dr. Strange piece by Daniel Danger.

Sang Kraftwerk's "We Are The Robots" and David Bowie's "Loving The Alien" at Ground Control this week.

Someone asked me who I was voting for and I told them "A Democrat."

Starting this Sunday, Nova Express Cafe will have prints of The Picture of Everything for sale for $80... $20 less than I charge online.
