DECEMBER 24, 2007

Ah. The last post of the year. It really flew by didn't it?

At least part of it. Some of it dragged, as all years do. But thinking back to last December, it seems like such a short amount of time to me... and also so very long ago.

There were good things that happened this year: The birth of my cousin Logan, my buddy Erich finishing his first book, the release of the animated Dr. Strange movie, my wife Jesse starring in the play "Crimes of The Heart" in Santa Monica, the last Harry Potter book coming out (and it was AWESOME!), getting to set up my Sanctum Sanctorum West for my Dr. Strange collection, TV shows Venture Bros, South Park, Lost and Heroes, an art show of my lenticulars in San Francisco, Ground Control karaoke continuing to become bigger and better, my friends Drew and Karie from The Dagons getting married, karaoke releases of Sisters of Mercy and Kraftwerk songs, a new Futurama DVD, getting to sing a Clash song with Love and Rockets at The Key Club, seeing Gogol Bordello live, the Unextraordinary Gentlemen CD, the Beastie Boys "Mix Up" CD, Ween's "La Cucaracha" CD, the movie Control, the video for Muse's "Knights of Cydonia", and getting to continue The Picture of Everything, which is going to be completed (hope hope) in 2010. (Brand new super awesome Prints are now available here!)

I quit a depressing job at an earplug factory in favor of one designing cool websites for kids (not online yet). Too bad the commute is so long... and the pay isn't great... but at least I'm working and have some kind of health coverage... times are tough for creative types.

Which brings us to the bad stuff of 2007... War, inflation, gas prices, the deaths of 2 of my favorite writers: Robert Anton Wilson and Kurt Vonnegut Jr., Trader Vic's Beverly Hills Restaurant closing, The Jet Setter in Lake Worth, Florida closing, my friend Mike Z's stepmom dying of cancer, Spider-Man 3, and Republicans.

Here's hoping 2008 will be much more awesome than 2007. All my best wishes to any of my pals reading this... I promise to blog more often.

NOVEMBER 26, 2007

The Picture of Everything has been updated!

OCTOBER 28, 2007

Halloween weekend costume photos here!

My wife Jesse had an article written about her in Backstage West!

Record prices:
Amazing Fantasy #15 (first appearance of Spider-Man): $227,000.00
Harry Potter & The Philosopher's Stone (first printing, only 500 copies made): $40,326.00
Joy Division: An Ideal For Living EP: $2247.22

The Joy Division movie Control was the best movie of the year so far.

My Bauhaus/Haunted Mansion mashup made it onto Boing Boing!

This is completely and utterly awesome.

OCTOBER 17, 2007

Hi. Long time no blog. My cousin Aubrey started bugging me about no updates to this page in a while and so to him I say: Thanks for giving a damn.

As my week days seem to go by in a blur with work leading to nights of TV watching Heroes, South Park, Weeds, Californication, Legion of Superheroes, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Metalocalypse, The Boondocks, Pushing Daisies, The Simpsons, The Sarah Silverman Program, Family Guy, Drawn Together and Dexter followed by quality time with my wife and sleep, there's hardly time to update the website or work on The Picture of Everything. Still, it does get done eventually. I hope to have an update on that by the end of the month.

But oh shit! It's ALREADY past the middle of the month!

So what's been up with me?

I just got my Halloween costume and have to get Jesse's this week.

My friend Rebecca made the greatest Dr. Strange Creepling for me. She makes these amazing dolls and sells them online. Check them out cuz I know you'll want one too.

Love the new Radiohead and PJ Harvey albums. I listen to both of them on the hour commute home from work. That and Howard Stern make the trip bearable.

Here's Alan Moore giving the best eulogy to Robert Anton Wilson he could have ever hoped for. A truly great loss we had this year. On the subject of death, my condolences to my friend Genesis P-Orridge on the tragic loss of his wife, the Lady Jaye Breyer P-Orridge.

In happier news...

The opening for the Apres Garde art show in San Francisco was fun. Saw the immortal founder of Last Gasp Comics Ron Turner there, who is the most Santa Claus-Like man I have ever met. Also hung with Anthony Ausgang and Dame Darcy. Got a double cover copy of Strange Tales #154 in Berkeley and got to see the Blue Angels doing formations as we drove over the Bay Bridge.

This may very well be the best disco video ever made.

Can't wait to see the Joy Division movie "Control" this Friday. It officially opens in LA at the Nuart that day and I have great expectations, which is a dangerous thing to go into a movie with this year after some of the threequels of the summer. It's that and Dia De Los Muertos at Hollywood Forever that are making me happy it's October.

SEPTEMBER 21, 2007

Stuff:
LOLthulhu
Marcia and Jan had some Brady on Brady action.
Jack Chick Tiki.
How to bed a Goth Chick.
Another Sisters of Mercy song comes to karaoke.
Here she comes.
Doo Dah Doo Doo!
My legs are long!

Darth Vader plays the harmonica.
Great Neilalien post about Dr. Strange's Cloak of Levitation not being present in Doc's astral form.
Jonathan Ross BBC Documentary on Steve Ditko: Part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
2 new Lienil Yu original art pages I got from New Avengers #34 with Night Nurse and Doc.

SEPTEMBER 6, 2007

Looks like my Custom Dr. Strange covers are appearing all over the internets: On Daily Rotten as well as Retrocrush.com! (Scroll down for that one!)

When people ask me why anyone would still want to go out to Burning Man despite the heat, hippies, cops and dust... My reply would be that it's the only place on Earth outside of a hallucination that you can see a giant Jawa Sandcrawler rolling toward you in the desert.

The only thing worse than getting annoying pop songs in your head is getting annoying novelty pop songs in Japanese in your head.

AUGUST 22, 2007

The website for "Apres Garde", the upcoming group art show in San Francisco I'll be showing some lenticulars in, is now online. Looks like I'll be showing 3 pieces now, including this new one I just made in honor of Bat's Day.

Want to see something amazing?

John Byrne can draw Dr. Strange real nice. And while we're on the subject, here's my review of the animated Doctor Strange DVD.

Stardust and Superbad might end up being my favorite movies of the summer.

Teenage fans of the High School Musical phenomenon: Zac Efron looks just like that girl on The L-Word.

Really enjoyed Cover Browser's Gallery of The Worst Album Covers Ever.

This may very well be the best Vice Magazine "Do and Don't" EVER.

Finally, I HAVE to get this t-shirt.

AUGUST 7, 2007

Fun stuff ahead in August: Bats Day at Disneyland, The Doctor Strange Animated Movie on DVD, and the new season of Weeds!

Los Angeles just got added to Google Maps Street View.

Mash-Up stuff: Listen to The Rolling Stones singing over The Dandy Warhols in DJ Pheugoo's latest amalagamation! Blow your mind watching "Stand By Me" mixed in with the "Beverly Hills 90210" theme in this video mash!

Did you know that David Bowie inspired Austin Powers?

Quick links of minor interest: The Royal Fart. Typewriter Artist. Sawyer from "Lost" says "Son of a bitch" a lot.

JULY 26, 2007

Looks like I won't have The Picture of Everything update ready until the end of summer, but it'll be a doozy!

My birthday this weekend looms. 3 dozen years old. Going up north to see Grinderman and get a drink or 3 at The Tonga Room.

The only time I ever saw Johnny Cash smile was when he was talking about Jesus or singing with The Muppets.

Fun with Charlie Brown: Charles Bukowski writes Peanuts (Click refresh if link doesn't work) and Peanuts as Marvel Comics Characters.

I wonder if I should hire a bunch of those models who wear anime girl masks to pass out my resume at San Diego Comic Con this weekend. If only they weren't all the way over in Japan.

All I want for my birthday is a full time job somewhere I like. Please please universe... Out of all the birthday wishes, make this one come true...

JULY 23, 2007

Harry Potter 7 was great. Probably my favorite in the series and a triumph of literature.

In other news, THIS is a great tribute by the band the Pipettes to the best movie ever made.

Here is yet another reason to never wear flip flops. World... Why don't you listen to my pleas? Flip flops are NEVER a good idea.

JULY 15, 2007

Funny new Dresden Dolls video spoofing David Lee Roth's "California Girls" with my pal David J thrown in for good measure.

There are some rich Joy Division fans out there.

Why the hell do I keep checking out this website every day?

My friend Scorpio Rex Steele has his own Dr. Strange comic on Myspace.

I love reading about myself in Spanish.

Stuff I'm listening to: Gogol Bordello, the Beastie Boys instrumental album and the gay Ween EP.

JULY 9, 2007

Haven't been blogging lately. Just working on sending out resumes, working on artwork, and celebrating my 1 year anniversary.

Have an art show at Gallery 1988 in San Francisco from October 6th - 26th. It's a group show and I'll be showing 2 lenticulars: The Big Bang and a new Dr. Strange piece based on Marie Severin's art from Strange Tales #158.

JUNE 20, 2007

OMFG. Michael Gump and his wife Christine met Britney Spears.

Just read the OJ Simpson "If I Did It" book online. He's guilty as all hell.

First there was Lolcats, and now there's lolgoths and loltheorists.

JUNE 7, 2007

Had a good day today. Had some freelance work. Drove Jesse to her play rehearsal. "Crimes of The Heart" starts a week from tomorrow. Heard Dandy Warhols, Sex Pistols and 4 Beatles songs on the radio. Went to see the Trash Band Film Festival at the Echo Park Film Center and saw Michael Gump. They screened the Trash Band's latest offering, Bananagun, as well as a bunch of other short films. All of them made me want to broof.

Then I get home and get an e-mail from Neilalien that tells me that one of my custom Dr. Strange covers has been set as the main image for the Wikipedia listing of Clea. (Attn. Marvel: Hire me already!)

Good times.

JUNE 2, 2007

With all the horrible things going on in the world, it's hard to find a cause worth fighting for. Well, I found it. Something so terrible that one needs to take a stand and do all they can to stop it. We must take action against this evil. PREPARE YOUR EYES FOR HORROR, ALL YEE WHO CLICK THIS LINK.

I made a slight update on The Picture of Everything. Just a tease of the second "Cars, People and Robots" section. Other than that and a small update to my comic book thread on Tiki Central, I've been pretty busy. My online portfolio is in the works, and it's going to take at least another week to finish, but it will RAWK. I also did some work with Brendan McCarthy for DC Comics on an upcoming Jonah Hex cover.

If you like Flaming Carrot or Moon Knight, you might want to check out these comic book lots I have for sale on eBay.

MAY 22, 2007

RANDOM WEB STUFF: Longcat is LOOOOOOONG!!!! Dr. Strange Marvel Animated DVD web site up. Spoiler t-shirt. Movie quotes with numbers from 100 to 1. (No Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy for #42? WTF?) Awesome Bruce Campbell Old Spice commercial #2. This should be made into a movie.

Quit my job and am thinking about selling my Dr. Strange collection. Hope it doesn't come down to that. There's a few freelance things coming up for me in the next 2 weeks, but am in search of something full time. Drop me a line if you or anyone else are looking for a web/graphic designer.

MAY 10, 2007

Someone from the associated press wrote to tell me there's gonna be an article about The Picture of Everything hitting the wire. Great timing, as I'm starting up this weekend on the next section. Had to move up my timeline on when the work will be completed, as the year has just gone by too quickly to keep up.

Jesse is going to be performing in Crimes of The Heart in June at the Santa Monica Playhouse, and you can get tickets by CLICKING HERE.

Things I have completed this year: THE DOCTOR STRANGE SANCTUM SANCTORUM WEST. All I need to complete the room is a black Eero Aarnio chair, which I'm saving up for next year.

Looking for something fun to do on Monday? Check out the new karaoke list for Ground Control and come out and sing.

APRIL 27, 2007

Hi everybody. Long time no blog.

Physics proves reality does not exist when we are not observing it.

Read a mofokin book!

Lego Imperial March Orchestra.

"America F**k Yeah!" and Sisters Of Mercy's "Temple of Love" now on karaoke.

Cthulhu t-shirts for every occasion.

Muppets vs The Doors vs The Macarena!

APRIL 13, 2007

Almost done with that very time consuming freelance website job. The last week had me in front of the computer from 8am until midnight each day, working the day job and the web at night. I'm about a month behind in The Picture of Everything 2, but will get back on track this month.

Meanwhile, if you're into internet cat pictures with funny slogans, here's 50 pages of them. On a related note, the "Walrus Bucket Saga" is gaining ground as my favorite meme of the moment, and already has a few parodies.

Kurt Vonnegut Jr... another one of my favorite writers to die this year. It sucks we now live in a world without him and Robert Anton Wilson, yet Ann Coulter still walks the Earth.

APRIL 4, 2007

Thanks to Erich and Rebecca for taking me around Tuscon, Arizona. We got to see the outside of the amazing Magic Carpet Miniature Golf course, which has a giant 3 story moai head. They also drove me to Kon Tiki, which is a legendary tiki bar that originated the Scorpion Bowl. I was going to get my cousin some tiki mugs there, but the owner won't sell any more of them until their online shop is up and running. Guess he found out people were selling them on eBay for $200 and decided he wanted to put a stop to that. (Hey Aubrey! When they go on sale, I'll send one your way!) The industrial dance club Asylum was fun and filled with nice people and strong drinks. They played French noir films about a Russian Roulette Club and sold VNV Nation and Alien Sex Fiend CDs in the back.

Here's a website that lists what bands are playing every night in cities around America and Canada. (I linked to Los Angeles, but you can use it for other cities too.)

This is cute.

Then there's the inevitable Japanese animated toilet training videos and Alanis Morrisette singing My Humps.

Don't you think this song sounds a lot like this one?

Finally, I can't fucking wait to see this.

MARCH 28, 2007

When you work a day job and also take on a freelance website designing gig, you have little time to blog or to dress like Dr. Strange and go to LARPs. If it wasn't for Jesse and Ground Control, not to mention the wii gifs thread on the Ween Forum, I would be bonkers.

Went to Wizard World and tried to cash in on the Captain America death thing but so far no sales. Also got a few more Strange Tales #110s to add to the collection. (That's the first appearance of Dr. Strange for any noob who may give a shit).

This weekend I'm visiting Erich and Rebecca in Arizona while Jesse performs a scene from The L Word in front of the show's cast and producers at The Dinah Shore Lezbopalooza. I'm really proud of her because not only is she in a one act play, but she's going to be Lennora Josephine 'Lenny' Magrath (Diane Keaton in the movie) in Crimes of The Heart at the Santa Monica Playhouse in June. More on that as I get it.

Let's see... what else... these were funny but completely fucked up. Someone wrote a Dr. Strange short story as if Hunter Thompson was writing him (Hey Johnny Depp! Are you up to playing a Marvel Super Hero?)

Also got one of these in the mail today. Thanks Aubrey!

MARCH 12, 2007

300 was fantastic. Definitely a guy movie. To enjoy it more, drink Miller Dark. "Now it's Frank Miller time". Hope it doesn't cause an onslaught of Mandals this summer. Boo.

So, what else... got a Dormammu Mego, been collecting images for The Picture of Everything 2 (did you know there's now 386 Pokemons?), and working at Moldex. Getting ready for Wizard World 2007 this coming weekend and will probably get a few comics slabbed.

Did you know that David Bowie's "Quicksand" and "Scary Monsters" have been released on karaoke?

Oh the funny...

Love checking out the new T-Shirt Hell selections of the week, the Magic Eye 3D stereogram of the week, and this page every day.

FEBRUARY 27, 2007

Fuck a dead dog up the ass... Go to jail. (Link to the actual page, which may change the photo from the one in the screen grab I took.)

Things to do in Los Angeles: Friday there's a group show at La Luz De Jesus Gallery. Saturday there's The Dandy Warhols and DJ Earworm at Club Bootie. And last but certainly not least, there's 100 NEW karaoke tracks coming to Ground Control this Monday!

Marvel Civil War: The Parody! (Much better than the actual comics!) ISSUE #1. ISSUE #2. ISSUE #3. ISSUE #4. ISSUE #5. ISSUE #6. ISSUE #7.

Why does it piss me off so much when I hear The Beatles in commercials, but absolutely love it when I see The Simpsons doing them in Japanese?

FEBRUARY 20, 2007

Just got this in the mail: Clea looking yummy.

My site was bombarded with traffic until my servers took my site offline yesterday. Why? All because of this thread on Digg.com. I didn't get to tell everyone it was Lee Marvin's birthday.

FEBRUARY 18, 2007

Maybe Nick Cave could get rid of his "No Pussy Blues" if he shaved that sleazy moustache.

Saw Ghost Rider this weekend and had a great time at the film and thought it was a goofy popcorn movie. Go with low expectations and a sense of humor and you might actually have fun. It also helps to go for flaming skull drinks afterward at Trader Vic's (which we did!). Also saw Factory Girl and thought Sienna Miller was fantastic as Edie Sedgwick.

Have a look at a nifty Dr. Strange commission I had done by comic legend Michael Gilbert!

Gollum sings Barry White.

Want to see Harry Potters butt? (This photo reminds me of something else.)

Jesse and I were watching cartoons yesterday and this song has been stuck in my head ever since.

FEBRUARY 13, 2007

The Silver Surfer meets Cthulhu at Nova Express!

Black Sabbath meets Fantasia!

Won the "fish in face" comic on eBay.

FEBRUARY 6, 2007

A message board thread and a livejournal post: So far, hundreds of people have seen it. Let's make it thousands. Can anyone help PWNING DA NOOBS go viral? You can put this image on any message board to help spread the word.

I can't wait until July 21st!

The new animated Hellboy DVD is fantastic. Great animation and a wonderful story, not to mention the voice cast includes everyone from the live action movie.

Speaking of cartoons: I KNOW WHO YOU ARRREEEE!!!!1!!

OK this is... ummm... yeah. I have no words. My cousin Aubrey sent it to me, along with this one.

Holy shit! Richard Cheese is playing the Derby!

A 30 minute mash up of circus songs including Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Elvis and Annette Funicello by Mr. Fab.

I want The Perfecto.

JANUARY 29, 2007

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present: PWNING DA NOOBS!!!1!!

After completing this last weekend, I made the horrible mistake of posting the above little movie on The Ween Forums. The people on those boards are vicious death dogs. You are guaranteed an ass wooping if you post on there unless you have more than 500 posts and give their message board servers some money. They will go as far as to hack into your computer and find pictures of you naked and post them with the words "Kill Yourself" afterward. Needless to say, when I realized the error of my ways and deleted my post, not wanting to waste my bandwidth space on the evil bastards making fun of me, they PWN3D me but good. Ha ha. I was PWN3D.

Awesome.

JANUARY 18, 2007

If you like cute cats, click here and scroll through the tread.

Going to this next weekend.

Cthulhu Family Circus.

Mash up: Tom Jones doing Prince over Funkytown!

Plush Necronomicon.

"C Is For Cookie" and Willy Wonka's "Pure Imagination" coming to karaoke for the first time.

A working robot from the year 1772.

Pickle Surprise!

JANUARY 15, 2007

Last weekend: Pan's Labyrinth was excellent. Missed Skeeter Truck at the Derby. Magician Rob Zabrecky invited me, Jesse, Free, Mike Z, Jenny, David Carradine and his wife Annie to The Magic Castle. Had a great dinner there, but to my eternal regret missed Rob's show. (I swear I'll make it to the next one if he forgives me!) Michael Gump, Adam Bregman and Erich Orser had birthdays. Watched The L Word and Extras. Began painting my Sanctum Sanctorum room. Found out Dr. Strange was going to be a New Avenger. Made Jesse read "Triumph And Torment". Contributed to a great message board thread on Risque Comic Books. Began painting a small room in my house.

JANUARY 11, 2007

A sad farewell to my favorite writer of all time, Robert Anton Wilson, who passed away today... May the apple of discord bring him to eternal peace and illumination in the world beyond.

JANUARY 10, 2007

The year just started and I already know what I want for my birthday. Of course, I'd also have to have one of these.

Once again, Vice Magazine Do's and Don'ts has given us fashion wisdom I completely agree with.

Will this work better than Red Bull?

Anime versions of The Simpsons and Futurama by Space Coyote.

Funny shirt #1. Funny shirt #2. Funny shirt #3. Funny shirt #4. Funny shirt #5.

A new Prisoner TV series is coming in 2008.

The best tiki bar in Lake Worth, Florida.

MASH UPS: Grateful Dead vs Busta Rhymes by DJ Zebra. Dire Straits vs. Fergie by DJ Zebra. Black Sabbath vs Ice T by DJ Topcat.
