DECEMBER 12, 2006

Wow. December 12th already. Sheesh!

I know my cousin Aubrey Hallis visits this site regularly to see if I've updated it, and think he would enjoy reading this. Knowing him, he would also think this was pretty funny.

I'm proud to be a member of the MMMS, especially when Spider-Man shows his weiner.

Really getting into Caninus, that death metal vegan band with an actual dog for a lead singer. Very challenging music to karaoke to.

Haven't heard a good mashup in a while, so I was glad to hear a decent one that mixed The Who and Prince.

You know what's weird? Thomas Sangster, the kid actor from Love Actually, was born on the day that both Jim Henson and Sammy Davis Jr. died.

You know what else is weird? Pauly Shore got punched in the face and the new Thomas Pynchon book is out. What do these two things have to do with each other? Maybe you should ask someone who might know the answer.

More soon. I promise.

Staying in town for Thanksgiving with Jesse and our Grandmas.

Speaking of Jesse, she has a new actor's reel online, and her former theatre company has a commercial on comedy central.

Listening to the new Tom Waits triple CD on a Tuesday night. Liked the new James Bond and finally getting to work on Alien Man #2.

Went to a great party last night.

NOVEMBER 11, 2006

Holy living mother of f--k. I have a Wikipedia article.

Congratulations to all Americans who voted for Democracy. Here's a gift for all of you. (Thanks Neilalien!)

Meanwhile, Alan Moore is going to be on the Simpsons and there's an amazing original art page from Watchmen on eBay right now.

Should Sasha Baron Cohen win the Academy Award for Best Actor playing Borat? Think about it. The guy never breaks character... even in doing promotion for the movie. That's dedication. I for one think he deserves it.

OCTOBER 31, 2006

The first of four new sections in The Picture of Everything 2 has been completed!

Alter Ego Magazine #62 is out, featuring more of my Custom Strange Tales covers!

Great movies opening this week: Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D (gotta see it!), The Prestige (with David Bowie as Nikola Tesla!), and Marie Antoinette (Jesse and I saw it 3 weeks ago and it was fantastic!)

And a big thanks to Benji for bringing me a Dr. Strange comic book from Argentina!

OCTOBER 11, 2006

2 reasons I'm happy to be living in Los Angeles: Roger Waters and Nick Mason of Pink Floyd playing the entire Dark Side of The Moon album live at The Hollywood Bowl (thanks to Mike Z and Allan for the tickets!) and The Dresden Dolls at The Orpheum Theatre. Speaking of The Dresden Dolls, they have a new video that's pretty funny.

Dr. Strange fans: October is the busiest month this year! Comic shops over the last 2 weeks got in Dr. Strange: The Oath #1 (Excellent start to what may be a great series), Stan Lee Meets Dr. Strange #1 (Reading it tonight), Dr. Strange Meets Dracula: The Montesi Formula graphic novel (one of the best Doc story arcs of all time!) and Marvel Team Up #25 (Spoiler: Doc ends up saving the day!). They also just released the enormous and beautiful Marvel Milestones Statue today! Last but not least, Marvel Ultimate Alliance is out this month as well, which is the first video game that allows you to actually play as Dr. Strange! I know at least 2 other people who care, but they probably don't read my blog!

Finally, the new Quentin Tarantino movie looks completely fucking awesome.

OCTOBER 10, 2006

My new favorite listing on Wikipedia might be deleted: Motif of Harmful Sensation.

My work has been translated into Spanish: "?Quien Sera Comido Primero?"!

Music I'm listening to: The Victorian English Gentlemen's Club, MC Chris, and The Groundskeepers.

This is pretty clever.

More soon!

OCTOBER 3, 2006

October already? Sheesh.

It's been quite a year so far. I got married to a wonderful woman, my brother moved to Las Vegas, and I start a new full time job as a graphic designer next Monday at Moldex Metric. I had 2 art shows of my Dr. Strange Collection, have almost completed the first new section on The Picture of Everything 2 (it WILL be online by Halloween!) and get to go to the best alternative karaoke night in the world every week.

There's been some bad stuff this year too. My friend Jeanie died. One of my heroes, Robert Anton Wilson, is dying at his home in Santa Cruz and is having a hard time paying the rent. This is a tragedy, as he is one of the best writers of the 20th century. (Find out more by clicking here). There's also been divorces, break ups, loss of civil liberties, traffic tickets and other disappointments, but on the bright side there's also a few things to look forward to... Namely, the next Harry Potter book, the upcoming Dr. Strange animated DVD, new seasons of Lost, South Park and Drawn Together and Dia De Los Muertos at Hollywood Forever cemetery.

Here's a few viral videos I liked over the last week:

1. Cthulhu has his own talk show!
2. Dick Cheney meets Scarface. (Brilliant!)
3. This professor appears to be very stoned.
4. Jem and The Holograms sing one of my favorite Le Tigre songs.
5. This creeps me out.

Finally, I'd like to think somehow that I've inspired this guy's artwork in some way.

SEPTEMBER 27, 2006

Here's a website that'll probably be shut down soon: Every episode of The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, South Park and Futurama for free on the web. (Now gone as of 10-10-06)

Jesse and I got invited to see Massive Attack at The Hollywood Bowl last Sunday. Both of us were feeling a bit under the weather, but we fought our oncoming illnesses and made it to our nosebleed seats. Glad we did, because Elizabeth Fraser of The Cocteau Twins came out and did 5 numbers with the band! Woo hoo!

On Saturday the 23rd we saw another amazing show: The Fab Faux at The House of Blues. They were incredible. If you love The Beatles, they're a must see. They do songs like "Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me and My Monkey". "Tomorrow Never Knows" and "Penny Lane" live... and it sounds note for note just like the album. They have 4 vocalists, a horn section, strings, 2 keyboards, live samples, and a group of amazing musicians on drums, bass and guitar. It was a 2 and a half hour show too, so you get your money's worth. Next month the band will play The White Album from start to finish (including "Revolution #9" - NOTE FOR NOTE!) in New York City. Wish I could see it.

Just finished reading the new Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie pornography "Lost Girls". It's a giant 3 volume bookset about Dorothy from The Wizard of OZ, Alice from "Alice In Wonderland" and Wendy from "Peter Pan" all having smutty sex with each other while re-telling their classic tales with a hardcore slant. For example, Peter Pan, The Scarecrow and The March Hare are shown having sexual exploits with the heroines instead of the usual kid friendly adventures. It was interesting, and the art is unique. Still smutty though...

Also saw Jackass 2... which was very very gay. Funny, but more male nudity and things up people's bums than any other movie I've seen this year.

I joined Sound Choice karaoke's message boards so I could request that they release more Ground Control friendly songs. I realize after reading some of the responses to my post on there that most karaoke fans around the country have terrible taste in music (IMHO). Have a look at my thread.

Other stuff:

See the amazingly cool cover of a comic I won on eBay last week.

Tiki fans: There's a new limited edition tiki mug that's shaped like a bad liver.

Check out The Yellow Submarine comic that never got published.

Watch the fantastic new Weird Al video.

Read a message board post I started: A Calvacade of Cameo First Appearances!

Some guy painted the Dogs Playing Poker picture in the dust on the back of his car.

Here's the funny t-shirt of the week.

Mash ups of the moment: Willie Nelson's "On The Road Again" vs. Afroman's "Because I Got High: DJ B.C.'s "Free Willie". Kraftwerk meets Justin Timberlake: DJ Tripp's "SexyKraft".

Finally... Screech from Saved By The Bell in a Dirty Sanchez porno!

My mind has been officially blown.

SEPTEMBER 20, 2006

DC Comics rejected my proposal for an online comic book archive, so I posted the entire thing on my website for all to see.

SEPTEMBER 13, 2006

Whenever I get angry at things, it's good to know that there are always Jesus and Mary Chain videos with nudity that I've never seen before, websites that change daily like The Great Comic Book Database's "Covers Posted Today", Vice Magazine's "Dos and Donts" and funny blogosphere posts like Motivational Posters For Super Villains.

SEPTEMBER 11, 2006

A sad day. Not only because of what happened in 2001, but because my good friend Jeannie passed away yesterday. It was sudden, unexpected, and a complete shock. Her livejournal avatar was a dancing Calvin, and her tragic passing made me think of both this and this classic Calvin and Hobbes strip.

SEPTEMBER 8, 2006

Happy birthday to my brother, King Cappy.

Thanks to Boing Boing for mentioning my Beyond The Valley of The Dolls Tarot Deck on their site.

Finally! Clothes that change color and play videos in the fabric! I thought of this idea over 10 years ago. Glad it's finally coming to be.

When Jesse and I have kids, you bet they'll be listening to this.

Besides the crab cakes, Geppi's Museum is the best reason to visit Maryland. Perhaps the greatest collection of comics and memorabilia ever assembled.

R.I.P. to Steve Irwin. You'll be missed.

SEPTEMBER 3, 2006

Made some new lenticulars: "Goth Karaoke", "Spinactus!", and "Uno What".

For those of you wondering when The Picture of Everything 2 will be updated, I'm hoping to get an entire section done by Halloween. I've been so busy meeting and hanging out with world famous celebrities that I'm a little behind on the project.

SEPTEMBER 1, 2006

Please pick this up at your local comic store.

Check out some fine art on display.

New mash-up of Phil Collins vs. NWA by DJ BC, just to get everyone in the mood for my performance at midnight on Saturday at Club Bootie LA.

The recent Vice Magazine post about sick vintage t-shirts made me search the web for this "BARF" shirt I remembered seeing when I was a kid. Somehow, like laughing squirting clown heads and Bigfoot and Wildboy, it made a huge impact on me. Well, I actually found one online, but it's way too small and way too much money.

AUGUST 25, 2006

Solo #12, the DC comic book I did digital effects and lettering for, is out this coming Wednesday. You can read an interview with the artist Brendan McCarthy on Newsarama, and several people (including Marvel's Mark Millar) have mentioned it on their websites. It was a lot of fun to do, and hope for more stuff like this to come my way in the future.

In people with similar names news: my friend Mark Miller will be playing with his band Skeeter Truck for free at The Los Angeles Farmer's Market tomorrow night.

Stan Lee is gonna meet Dr. Strange. Here's a nice two page splash from the story where it happens.

After Snakes On A Plane, what can they possibly do next?

Just read a great graphic novel called "Adventures In OZ" by Eric Shanower. It was an absolutely fantastic book. If you read the OZ series when you were a kid and know anything about the mythology that came after the events in The Wizard Of OZ movie, this graphic novel is a worthy successor to that legacy. Beautiful full color and printing make this collection expensive at $40 ($26.39 at Amazon!), but for half the price of what it would take to fill up a Hummer with gas, this is worth a look.

Well folks, looks like the game is rigged.

Funny t-shirt of the week.

Next Saturday I'll be performing at Club Bootie Los Angeles. I'll be singing "Boys Don't Cry" by The Cure to Black Sabbath's "Paranoid". Here and here are photos of my last performance there dressed like Captain Jack Scissorhands.

AUGUST 21, 2006

Bat's Day at Disneyland was a blast. I designed an Einsturzende Neubauten Mickey Mouse shirt to wear for it last week, but found out Mr. Coleman has been wearing one just like it for the last 3 years. So I put together a Love and Rockets Bat's Day shirt and wore that one instead. It's great to work with Avery's Ink Jet Dark T-Shirt Transfers, which are a must for any bootleg goth fashion ideas.

Jack Sparrow on the Pirates ride was nicely done, and I got to see my friend Scott who plays Dopey in the Live Action Snow White show. He told me the cast loves Bat's Day since it's the only day of the year that the crowd cheers for the Evil Queen.

Jesse and I got to eat at Club 33 thanks to theangelus and his pals, and I ended up running into my old Klasky Csupo co-worker Eric Trueheart there, who is an amazing writer and all around good guy. We also sat next to Little Gloomy and Carl Cthulhu co-creator Landry Walker, and I ended up getting a Club 33 windbreaker, which is definitely the most awesome Members Only style jacket from a members only club in the history of ever.

After dinner we went to the Haunted Mansion to get our group photo taken, which they shoot to get a census of how many goths attend the event. The Haunted Mansion ride was never more fun. When we were on the elevator in the stretching portraits room, the entire room chanted with Vincent Price "There are no windows... and no doors..."! I also had no idea they added some new changing portraits after the ballroom section of the ride, as well as some new ghosts in the graveyard. (Glad it wasn't Eddie Murphy related, as was originally planned. Not to diss Eddie, who was funny as hell once upon a time, but some Disney rides should not be made into movies.)

I'm definitely coming back next year. All props to Noah and the rest of the crew behind this event.

Meanwhile, in other news, I finally got a copy of the comic book with my all time favorite cover.

And Ween meets South Park in this You Tube video.

AUGUST 16, 2006

If you're anywhere near a comic book store, check out Alter Ego Magazine #61. They have my Dr. Strange custom covers in there as well as a nice picture of me and Jesse on page 82!

Wonder what celebrity you look like? This site will take a digital photo from your desktop and match it with stars who resemble your picture.

Kudos to Erich Orser for telling me about the poo news story of the year so far.

Finally, The Venture Bros. is the best show on TV right now. It has music by Foetus, a Dr. Strange clone with a goth daughter, and some of the funniest super villain henchmen in the history of ever. The last episode kicked so much ass... I'm definitely going to buy a shirt.

See everyone at Bat's Day!

AUGUST 9, 2006

Hell has frozen over. There's actually a Joy Division Mickey Mouse Shirt as well as a Snow White Evil Queen Siouxsie and The Banshees shirt and even a Tinkerbell Bauhaus shirt. Looks like Disney is finally selling merch just in time for Bat's Day, when goths from all over the world descend on the Magic Kingdom. This, as well as the brand new karaoke CD-Gs of The Smiths and She Wants Revenge, the upcoming Ian Curtis movie, and the first 20 issues of Sandman coming out in a giant hardback, is enough to almost make any goth not want to kill themselves.

Thanks to everyone who came out to see Wrong Dimension Boy at Club Bootie LA last weekend. I'll be there again next month!

See the Doctor Strange animated movie preview online, or see it on the Ultimate Avengers 2 DVD. If you get it at WalMart, it comes with an exclusive Doc and Iron Man mini-comic.

And in closing... Penis Worms?!

AUGUST 3, 2006

Let us all pray to The Vishanti that the upcoming Dr. Strange animated DVD movie does not suck.

Is this the brownest cereal ever made?

Glad You Tube exists so you can see stuff like the Bush/Blair Gay Bar video, the promo video for Pink Floyd's "Lucifer Sam", and the pre-9-11 finale to The Lone Gunmen pilot online any time you like...

And then there's this...

JULY 25, 2006

Here's a photo gallery of the wedding and the honeymoon.

In Dr. Strange news, thanks to Neilalien for sending me and Jesse best wishes on his Doc blog. I put up cover scans of a few more comics I got in France. Also got one of the cutest lil Dr. Strange toys ever in the mail... The Corinthian mini figure!

Speaking of cute: Many many thanks to DJ Krieg for scoring a Monsterclix Great Cthulhu figure for me at San Diego Comic Con this year! It's completely awesome.

Here's the flyer for the Club Bootie Wrong Dimension Boy show. Expect to see Captain Jack Scissorhands take the stage around midnight.

What I want for my birthday this year. Either that or the lenticular teaser poster for Spider-Man 3.

Read the new Timothy Leary bio by Robert Greenfield. His research is pretty thorough, and I learned a lot of things about Tim I hadn't known before. The book is pretty critical of Leary's shortcomings. It constantly questions Tim's integrity by pointing out inconsistencies in both his philosophy and behavior. In my old friend's defense (now that he's dead and can't speak for himself), Leary always told me that his opinion and ideas were in a constant state of revision. Still, Greenfield did his homework and read almost everything Tim put out. He also talked to a lot of the folks who were up at the house before Leary died. Not me though. My only critique would be to question Greenfield's consultation with Leary's old biographer Peter Whitmer. Tim HATED Whitmer and constantly ranted about how Whitmer's biography was full of complete fabrications. Whitmer did a book on Hunter S. Thompson as well and I heard Hunter and Tim going off in detail on the phone how they wanted to have him killed. When I went to see Hunter at The Viper Room, I asked him what he thought of Peter Whitmer and he had Johnny Depp get the bouncers to throw me out of the club. Take all this for what it's worth. Perhaps Whitmer had some info Leary and Thompson didn't want made public. Or maybe he was full of shit. The verdict is still out there...

JULY 22, 2006

Well folks, I'm back from Europe. As I get photos of my honeymoon and wedding ready to post online for the few people who might be interested, you'll have to settle for images of the Dr. Strange comic books I got over there for now.

As for any other news on my part, I'll be doing a short Wrong Dimension Boy set at Club Bootie in August. More on this soon. Aw yeah!

New viral videos: All the F-words spliced together to form F-Bomb parades in The Big Lebowski and Scarface. Also, even if you're not a Star Wars fan, you should check out The Vader Sessions, where James Earl Jones's dialogue from other movies and TV shows is expertly dubbed over all the Darth Vader scenes from A New Hope. Hilarity ensues.

Does it suck or is it cool that you can do this?

RIP to one of my absolute favorite musicians, Syd Barrett. The Madcap Laughs and Piper At The Gates of Dawn are eternal testaments to his insanity and genius.

Finally, who else thinks Johnny Depp and Bill Nighy (Davey Jones in all his Cthulhuesque glory) deserve some Oscars this year?

I'll post again before my birthday...

JULY 8, 2006

The wedding was great! Jesse and I thank everyone who came and wished us well. Here's our cake topper, designed by my pal Whitney Mitchell at Gentle Giant Studios!

Some mash ups of note: "Careless or Dead" by The Kleptones and The Legion of Doom's "Crazy As She Goes".

Will update again when Jesse and I get back from our honeymoon in London and Paris. Cheers me mates, and Au Revoir!

JUNE 30, 2006

My last posting as a single man!

Happy birthday to my Grandma Sadie: 92 years old today!

The Picture of Everything 2 has been updated. Have a look at the work in progress!

I heard they're making the fantastic comic book Preacher into an HBO series. This is what the character Arseface will look like.

Neat optical illusion: Stare at the black dot in the middle of this picture and the black and white photo will turn to color.

JUNE 15, 2006

About 2 months ago, marketing firm Bender Helper Impact hired me to re-design my Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls Tarot Cards. They made and sent out 300 sets as a promo for the DVD (which is out right now, by the way!). You can see the new cards by clicking here.

Brendan and I are almost done with Solo #12 for DC, but I'm pulling an all-nighter tonight to get 3 pages done by tomorrow.

In other comic book news, J. Jonah Jameson, along with everyone else in 616, just heard Peter Parker tell everyone he's been Spider-Man since he was 15 years old in a televised press conference.

I think I need a brand new energy drink.

JUNE 6, 2006

In honor of this being both National Day of Slayer and National Emo-Kid Beatdown Day, I've decided to post something truly evil.

Speaking of evil, have a look at the Giant Heroclix Cthulhu figure that's coming out in August. It is KICK ASS.

Does anyone else think this is funny?

This is totally brilliant and a fantastic piece of journalism, but definitely NOT SAFE FOR WORK.

And finally, someone on The Price Is Right likes to smoke weed.

MAY 31, 2006

10 years ago today Timothy Leary died. I was there. Rest in peace, my friend.

I've been working hard getting a huge update on The Picture of Everything 2 ready for the end of June, adding years worth of suggestions. More on this soon.

Photos are up online for my Doctor Strange exhibit at the California Science Center.

MAY 26, 2006

Hello everybody! Long time no speak. At least web news update wise. So how are ya? Things going well? Hope so. It's been 10 entire days.

Sooo... What's been up with me?

First off, my home page has gotten a long overdue photo change. It was me with my arms folded in a tie since way back in the early 00's. Here's the old picture if you're feeling nostalgic.

Then there's the Doctor Strange Collection, which as of tomorrow is up on display at the California Science Center as part of the Marvel Comics Exhibit. If you go, tell me how it looks because I haven't seen it all up yet and probably won't until Monday.

What's up with Solo #12, the DC comic book I'm working on with Brendan McCarthy? DC Comics has it in it's solicitations for August (scroll down) and you can see the cover here.

Meanwhile, in other not so personal news: A Finnish heavy metal band with an Orc for a drummer won a televised battle of the bands.

Fox News made a broadcast about using water as fuel.

Lost fans learned that this guy, by not typing Catwoman's mug shot numbers into a computer in time, caused Flight 815 to crash.

And they think they can make an invisibility cloak just like Harry Potter has FOR REALS.

Tiki fans, do you know what sucks? Trader Vics Beverly Hills, Sam's Seafood AND The Royal Hawaiian are all closing down. That stinks worse than this.

Don't worry folks. Don't get bummed out by that. I'll cheer you up. Check it: You can now use Pandora.com to instantly create a streaming radio station that plays songs from any band you type in over the web. It's free of course. Try it.

What else... Some possible contenders for my 2006 "Best of the Year" all appeared in the same week: The Dagons released what I believe is the album of the year (so far). The Daily Show had their best news bit of the year (so far). And Jesse, by watching X-Men 2 and X-Men 3 in the same day with me today, wins the "Geekiest Thing Jesse Did For Me All Year (So Far) Award". She can still top herself, but it's doubtful.

Finally, congrats to Ground Control, who will have their 2 year anniversary this coming Monday. Maybe I'll see you there.

MAY 16, 2006

FHM web page is now online. Too bad it's just a form to send to THEM offering me suggestions on who to put in The Picture of Everything. WTF?!

On to other things: This has my vote for best mash-up of the year so far. Check out some Tikis in comic books. Read the nerdiest message board page ever posted. Also, if you haven't already, definitely download the free version of Google Earth.

MAY 11, 2006

Its almost 2 weeks into the month and FHM Magazine JUST updated their website, but still no link to any info about my art, which should be HERE. Maybe tomorrow.

Starting in the next couple of weeks, the Dr. Strange Collection is going to be on display at the California Science Center as part of the Marvel Super Heroes Science Exhibition. On a related subject, I have to thank my pal Mr. Coleman for grabbing me shwag at E3 today for Activision's upcoming video game featuring Dr. Strange as a playable character: Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

Movies: This one was pretty good. Can't wait to see this one and this one.

Now on to more silly stuff: "Totally Goth". "Cookie Monster Searches Deep Within Himself and Asks: Is Me Really Monster?". "New Anti-Abortion Pill Kills Mother, Leaves Fetus Alive."

And finally, a question to ponder...

MAY 4, 2006

FHM Magazine has finally printed their "update" on my burning of The Picture of Everything. You can see it on page 16 of the June issue. (Jenny McCarthy is on the cover). The blurb links to an article on their site that's supposed to give me suggestions for TPOE 2, but as of now the link is dead.

I know I've jokingly listed high priced items that I would love my friends to buy me on this site before, but this is probably the one item I would actually do just about anything to get. Anyone want to loan me $12,000 to $15,000? Anyone have a truckload of cash you want to unload for my early birthday present? This piece would be my comic book original art holy grail.

MAY 3, 2006

Barney The Dinosaur meets Tupac! Martin Mull meets Tom Waits!

DJ Earlybird makes a decent mash-up of Talking Heads "Psycho Killer" and Robert Palmer's "Addicted To Love".

MAY 1, 2006

Happy Illuminati Day!

While we're on that subject, mad props to Stephen Colbert and his mighty balls.

Music fun: Challahback Girl, The Star Spangled Banner in Spanish, and Gangsta Fag.

Coolest new image of Dr. Strange posted this year. (Thanks Neilalien!)

APRIL 24, 2006

Youtube fun: Have a look at the pilot for Super Nerds (with cameo by Sarah Silverman) and hear the mighty sermons of The Spirit Of Truth!

Some sort of decent mash-ups on the Bootie Top 10 this month. Nothing Earth shattering though...

Yeah it's a remake of a Japanese Horror film, but I really want to see the movie Pulse. Not only does the American version look scary, but it stars Veronica Mars!

Dreamhouse Ensemble is having a comedy benefit this Wednesday. Come by and support local theatre and enjoy some funny comedians at the Melrose Improv!

APRIL 17, 2006

They finally have TiVo on your cell phone! I've been waiting for this to happen for years!

Ah, the life of a Dr. Strange completist... First this comes out and then you hear about this, this and this... It's getting very expensive to keep up with all this stuff!

I saw a double feature of Scary Movie 4 and The Benchwarmers on Saturday while Jesse was babysitting and feel more retarded because of it. The best parts of Scary Movie 4 were already shown in the trailer and commercials for the movie, with the exception of a lovely scene where Carmen Electra takes a boisterous crap in front of a room full of people. As for the Benchwarmers... if anyone ever wanted to see Deuce Bigalow, Joe Dirt and Napoleon Dynamite team up with John Lovitz and his animated son from The Critic cartoon, this is your chance. Reggie Jackson was pretty good, as was the "Howie" character, which was the best part of the picture. Other than that, these two movies, despite being the sublime cultural experiences they were, made me yearn for something a bit more... deep.

Luckily, Jesse brought me and her mom to see the stunning photos and movies of Gregory Colbert's "Ashes and Snow" exhibit at the Santa Monica Nomadic Museum on Sunday. His work with people (most with their eyes closed in a state of meditation) interacting with wild animals like whales, leopards and elephants was haunting and definitely worth a trip to the beach to see.

Other stuff on the horizon: Free Dresden Dolls in-store coming up Wednesday night at Virgin Megastore in Hollywood, and if anyone is around their computer Monday night and wants to see what Alternative Goth Karaoke looks and sounds like, now you can watch it live!

Finally, I wonder if tiki fans know about this issue of the Marvel comic "Tales To Astonish". (See page 1, 2, 3) (Hey Aubrey! You should post this on Tiki Central!)

APRIL 7, 2006

Happy Birthday to Jesse today!

If anyone wants to get us a nice wedding gift, this will do.

Funny t-shirts. This one is pretty good.

MARCH 29, 2006

New Dresden Dolls video now online.

Marvel Illuminati #1 out today.

MARCH 26, 2006

Marvel Macy's Day Parade Float video from 1990. (Scroll down a bit on that web page to see it) Dr. Strange meets Willard Scott. Really really really REALLY cheesy.

Joy Division meet dixieland jazz.

The Smiths as puppets. Not as cool as it could have been.

MARCH 17, 2006

11 days since my last post. Well, what's been up?

Brendan McCarthy and I are working on his issue of DC Comics "Solo". I had no idea how hard digitally coloring comic books would be.... adding all the effects and stuff... really fun but TIME CONSUMING. We should both be at Wizard World Los Angeles this Saturday so say hello if you see us there.

The art show at Meltdown is still up and will be through the 25th. The opening was fun. Matt Groening briefly checked out the happenings, as did "Lost" series co-creator Jeffrey Lieber... and there were hot chicks there, which is a great thing to see at ANY comic book store! (Jesse was there too of course!)

Both my cousin and friend darqleo sent me a link to a web site that tells you what religion various comic book characters are, but it lists Dr. Strange's as "occult". How do you explain this then?

Meanwhile, there's mothafucking SNAKES ON A PLANE!!

MARCH 6, 2006

PICTURES OF THE EXHIBIT ARE NOW ONLINE! Click here to see.

MARCH 4, 2006

Web movies that kick ass: Live action Simpsons opening. I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!

FEBRUARY 26, 2006

Hope to see all of you at the opening next Saturday. I'll be at Wacko this Friday passing out flyers for it.

A very sad goodbye to Don Knotts. Besides being in an early 90's band named after the actor, I got to meet him once at a book signing. He was a sweet and funny man. Rest in peace, Mr. Furley.

The Gardens of Robot Delights lightbox lenticular will be on display at the show above this Wednesday. Been working hard on preparing the Dr. Strange show at Meltdown Comics next month. Thanks to Neilalien and The Defenders Message Boards for mentioning it.

Speaking of comics, let's geek out: This is one of the weirdest double covers I've ever seen. Also, I'm soooo going out to Best Buy to get this today! And on the sick humor side, Johnny Ryan's new Angry Youth Comix #10 is another work of sheer brilliance.

If you want to see some great artwork involving Christopher Walken and other celebs of note, check out Brandon Bird's work.

The Picture of Everything 2 has been updated. I shouldn't really call it that, nor should I call it The New Picture of Everything. All the stuff I'm doing on the piece will connect to the first one, doubling the size of the image. Then, when THAT'S DONE, (approx. time: 2 years), I'm going to make 2 new sections on the top and on the bottom of the entire work that will mirror each other... a Heaven and Hell I'll work on simultaneously. It'll be done by 2009 or 2010, if we should all live that long.

Do you think I inspired this guy? All I know is his car is going to be the first one I draw in the next section of The Picture of Everything 2!

This is one of my favorite commercials of all time.

Looks like I'm adding another comic book to my list. While we're on the subject of comics, this is broofadelic.

Finally, Would you wear one of these shirts?

5. Crom!

Here's a new digital collage I did called "1560". Enjoy!

ART SHOW ANNOUNCEMENTS! Andrew of Ground Control is hosting a show called Field of Vision on Wednesday, February 22nd at Jewel's Catch One that will feature my new "Garden of Robot Delights" collages in big lightboxes. After that they will be put on display (along with 8 other new ones) at Nova Express. Then in March my Doctor Strange collection will be on display at Meltdown Comics in a show that will feature original art, the custom Strange Tales covers, as well as rare posters, comics, toys, and collectibles! Opening reception for that one will be on Saturday, March 4th.

Other stuff: Coachella goes on sale tomorrow. Here's the lineup. (Just kidding!)

Do you know what movie dropped the most F-Bombs?

Mash up of the minute: Nine Inch Nails meets Pink Floyd together again for the first time, courtesy of DJ totom.

Meanwhile, monkeys can ice skate.

Posted some new lenticulars in the art gallery.

Comic book artist Brendan McCarthy has hired me to help him do lettering, coloring, digital collage and possibly some writing and artwork for a comic book he's doing for DC Comics! The pay is great, and the work should be fun. The comic is called "Solo", as each issue features a different artist and their own personal takes on the DC Universe characters. I met Brendan a few years ago thru a mutual friend, but he got back in touch with me after seeing my Dr. Strange Custom Covers Project on the web. Who says Dr. Strange isn't working his magic for me?!

Weirdest... Comic... Ever! Superman, Spider-Man, Batman and Indian super hero Nagraj vs. Shakoora The Magician! This must be a comic from India, as it has gurus coming to save the day and reads like a Bollywood movie. I'm pretty sure Marvel and DC never cleared their characters for this either, as Superman kills someone by throwing them into a volcano, which isn't very Superman-like. Then there's also the mention of a Lou Albano for all you wrestling fans!It reads like a comic adventure played with bootleg toys...

Star Wars rock band Grand Moff Tarkin!

A long download but worth it for folks who like this kind of thing: Comic Art Fans Annual Best of The Year nominations has some amazing and historical pieces up for your viewing pleasure. Speaking of comic art, I just got two new Dr. Strange pieces: An unpublished Gene Colan splash page and a fantastic image of Dormammu and Baron Mordo!

Want to see the biggest collection of toy robots in the world? How about making yourself into a Simpsons character?

If you get a chain letter and post it on your website, does it count?

Links of interest: Spider Woman bukkake, The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny, and a brand new toy.

Living in Los Angeles: Art of Bleeding show at CIA with guest stars Paul K. and Margaret Cho this Friday. (I'll be at The Warlocks). Kids In The Hall alumnus Dave Foley and his wife Crissy Guerrero have a play called The Tribute playing on January 27th & 28th. (By the way: A special thanks to Dave for saying hi to my cousin Aubrey on my cell phone when I ran into him last night at the taping of the pilot of Comedy Central's Naked Trucker and T-Bone Show. Alanis Morissette was there as well. It was like the night of a million Canadian superstars, eh?!)

Comic artist of the day: Just heard from my British friend Brendan McCarthy that he has a new book collecting his artwork called Swimini Purpose. Congrats Brendan!

Finally: Didja see that E! reporter touch Scarlett Johansson's boob at the Golden Globes?

After more than a year of work, my Doctor Strange Custom Covers project is now complete! All 35 issues of Steve Ditko's run on Strange Tales finally have the cover recognition they deserve!

This terrifying video by David Hasselhoff is definitely a sign of the apocalypse. And when you're done watching that, you can hot wax his hairy chest. Brrrr... I have chills.

Here's a great comic book artist from France named Thomas Frisano who was doing painted covers long before Alex Ross. His work is beautiful!

I really want to see The Warlocks and Sisters of Mercy at The House of Blues, but $50 for the cheap seats is pretty steep. Maybe I can hit up Bobby or Bob to get me on the list when I see them play at The Echo on the 20th.

Finally, a new Vice Dos and Donts for January, a new Johnny Ryan strip, an alphabetical list of every Sesame Street character, and a reminder that every Monday night you still can sing goth, punk and alternative karaoke at Ground Control.

JANUARY 10, 2006

Updated The Picture of Everything 2! Did a few panels since the New Year and thought I'd share.

Don't you dare Stack The Cats... Speaking of which... AAAAAAA!!!!

Art is such a subjective thing. To me, this is good art and this is bad art. But what the hell do I know?

Thinking of putting this on our wedding registry.
